Our research lines

From gastrointestinal disorders and early-life immune programming to bacterial adaptation and antimicrobial resistance.

Scientific scope

Core research lines

The group combines complementary microbiology and translational approaches across gastrointestinal health and infectious disease.

RESEARCH LINE 01

Coeliac disease and other gastrointestinal disorders

Mechanisms, diagnostic and monitoring biomarkers, food safety, intestinal permeability and translational strategies relevant to coeliac disease and related inflammatory or functional gastrointestinal conditions.

RESEARCH LINE 02

Epigenetics, phenotypic heterogeneity and antimicrobial resistance

Genetic, epigenetic and phenotypic mechanisms that shape bacterial adaptation to environmental pressure and antibiotics, including single-cell analysis and advanced genomic approaches.

RESEARCH LINE 03

Maternal-infant microbiota, prenatal exposome and immune programming

Microbial, metabolic and immune signals across human milk, the intestinal microbiota and amniotic fluid, and their relationship with early-life food sensitivities and gastrointestinal disease.
