Current research projects

Four active projects connect gastrointestinal disease, antimicrobial resistance, prenatal exposures and early-life biology.

Antimicrobial resistance

Cellular responses of Enterobacteriaceae to carbapenems at single-cell resolution

Studies genetic, epigenetic and phenotypic mechanisms involved in bacterial adaptation and antimicrobial resistance, combining single-cell technologies with third-generation sequencing to identify mechanisms that may help restore treatment sensitivity.

Prenatal exposome

Prenatal exposome and the amniotic-fluid signature of fetal immune programming and food sensitivities

Investigates maternal diet, microbial exposure and other immunomodulatory factors in fetal immune programming through the chemical, metabolic, microbial and immunological characterisation of amniotic fluid.

Early-life multiomics

Multiomic discovery of cellular and transcriptional biomarkers in early-life food-related disorders

Examines how maternal allergen-exclusion diets and infant feeding affect human milk, the intestinal microbiota and mother-infant immunity, with the aim of identifying early mechanisms and biomarkers linked to cow's-milk-protein allergy and coeliac disease.
